PTSD From Accidents

Accidents are sudden, unexpected and often accompanied by a great deal of stress and pain. They can disrupt your life and change it instantly and traumatically.

After your trauma is done and your physical injuries are healed — or are as close to healed as possible — and life has supposedly returned to normal, you may still feel anxious and nervous, and unable to go on with your life.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is suffered by people who have undergone a traumatic experience. Many people are aware that soldiers who have been in combat are vulnerable to PTSD, but are not aware that assault victims and victims of car accidents may also suffer from the same symptoms.

Many of our clients with PTSD don’t understand what is wrong with them, or why they are unable to go on with their lives. It doesn’t help that medical professionals such as some family doctors may also fail to recognize or give importance to the experiences and difficulties articulated by their patients.

PTSD is treatable. You can get better. And although medical professionals and insurance companies may have difficulty recognizing and putting value on your experiences, our lawyers are here to help make sure you get the treatment and the compensation you need.

Recognizing Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder

Recognizing the symptoms and causes of PTSD from an accident can be enormously helpful, but many of our clients are reluctant to seek a psychiatrist or don’t realize that their symptoms are something that a psychiatrist can treat.

Some of the symptoms our clients suffer are:

  • Inability to sleep
  • Nightmares
  • Stomach trouble
  • Panic attacks
  • Exaggerated anger, fear and other negative emotions
  • Depression
  • Difficulty remembering or concentrating
  • Need to avoid reminders of the traumatic event, such as a particular intersection Since it can take some time for the symptoms of PTSD to become overwhelming, it can also take a long time to convince the insurance company that they were caused by the accident. We can help you to do so.
